VDU workers provide large boost for Rodenstock dispensing

The Rodenstock Nexyma, a degressive lens specially designed for computer and laptop users, has trebled its dispensing rate at the 15 strong Allders Opticians Group, following a promotion of the lens benefits in patient reminder letters.

Allders Opticians Managing Director, Ron Mulholland, said the age-specific recall letters during a three month period had led to “significant” second pair dispensing at the Hertfordshire group.

“So many patients have not been aware of the real benefits that Nexyma can bring to them, with greater visual comfort and less headaches and eyestrain.  Most thought that the best vision they would get would be with a classic varifocal,” said Ron Mulholland.

Awareness of Computer Vision Syndrome, highlighted by BBC News SouthEast TV and BBC Radio Kent reports recently have boosted calls to Rodenstock’s help desk, from consumers.

The BBC reports carried interviews with independent Nigel Barraclough of Sussex group Barraclough & Stiles, along with Rodenstock Managing Director Barry Dibble and Rodenstock Production Director Andy Cobbold, plus footage of Rodenstock’s state-of-the-art Northfleet laboratory.

Reaching millions of computer users the Northfleet head office of Rodenstock UK received calls from practitioners whose patients had come in seeking relief from the discomfort of prolonged computer use with inadequate eyewear.

Rodenstock’s customer service team are keen promoters of the lens, as Sara Lambert, the Department Manager explained, “We see very, very, few non-tolerances, thanks to the design of the lens.  It has a very smooth transition with very little distortion, so that people tend to adapt straight away, so much so, that we opt to wear it ourselves in the customer services department.”
