Easyscan demonstrate why SLO scanning is a leap forward from outdated white light photography.

Easyscan SLOEasyscan had a very successful reception to the Live Demonstrations of the SLO Retinal Imaging Scanner providing tomographic imagery on the Grafton Stand who distribute in the UK.

Easyscan received orders on each day for their retinal imager and it is evident that like the US and European markets there has finally been an understanding that SLO confocal technology, fast and accurate through undilated eyes is a step change from white light fundus photography of old providing so much more retinal layer detail and yet simple to use on everyone screening.

Optrafair caught up with Managing Director, Harvey Dhadwar to see what we can expect from Zuma at this year’s show

Q: Could you tell me about the history of the company, and how it was set up? Do you believe you were filling a necessary gap in the market?

A: At the time before setting up we saw there were a number of luxury rimless eyewear ranges that catered the market well. What we identified was the need in the market for a rimless range that would provide a great option for Practices looking for excellent quality but at a more affordable price point.

We spent the next 12 months working on a range to cater for that need, visiting various factories to ensure what we wanted could be made to the quality and specification we had designed.

We launched the new Zuma 100% Titanium rimless range in 2009 at Optrafair.

Q: Where did the passion for frame design come from?

A: My business partner and I have always shared a big interest in fashion, design and business. While I have a marketing and consulting background, he is a qualified Optometrists and we found our skills synergised well to help create a great product to fit the gap in the market.

Q: Have Zuma been involved in many trade shows in the past? What is it about Optrafair that makes the company want to exhibit there?

A: Optrafair is the original UK optics show, the name resonates with the Optics industry, everybody knows Optrafair so it's always been the obvious choice.

When we launched our first Zuma collections at Optrafair. The show has always been regarded as a buying show. It proved so, we managed to open over 100 accounts in 3 days. Then every time we've done Optrafair we've experienced a step level in growth, so Optrafair has played an important part in our own growth story.

Q: Why are exhibitions important to Zuma? Do they help spread the brand name? What are the reactions to the company when it attends a trade show?

A: We tend to be quite proactive at shows. We feel it's a great environment to meet and greet some of our great customers. Exhibitions are an important way to introduce new practices to our products and existing practices to our new products. We have been growing at a steady pace having acquired all the portfolio from award winning French manufacturer Morel, including lines such as Lightec and Oga. This year we will be launching our most recent acquisition, the global designer brand Kenzo. Exhibitions give us a change to connect directly with new and existing customers and show them what's new with us.

Q: Has Optrafair improved over recent years?

A: I feel this year definitely, it appears more and more people are aware of what is in store at this year's Optrafair and the buzz around it seems higher than in recent years.

Optrafair is a show for the industry by the industry, and covering all bases to be a one stop shop for the needs of the industry.

Q: Do you believe there will be a different kind of sale at Optrafair to other trade shows?

A: Yes, it always has been a buying show and draws a diverse spectrum of practices attending from all over the UK due to its 'central' location. This varying demographic is a good fit for us as we have products to meet the needs of various demographics, we generally have something that appeals to almost all Opticians.

Q: What is your opinion of Optrafair’s marketing and branding leading up to the event?

A: This year's campaign has been impressive, the branding and marketing seems to be getting across and I hope that leads to successful 2017 show.

Q: What benefits will Optrafair bring to Zuma?

A: Hopefully we can introduce new customers to our award winning lines and introduce new products to our existing clients as we have lots of exciting releases coming in April.

Q: What can we expect from Zuma at this year’s show?

A: Zuma is showcasing the award winning lines by Morel including Lightec and Oga. We have new releases in Zuma titanium rimless and the excellent but affordable Marius Morel. We are also launching the new designs from global designer Kenzo this spring.

Q: What trends will be sought after in 2017?

A: I believe there is a trend towards metals or composite materials, the vintage retro look is strong. Colours and variety are important, a nod to maximalism.

Q: How does the company manage to stand out from the crowd in such a competitive market?

A: Our ranges are carefully chosen to represent some of the best innovation, design, service and value to the industry. We have products with award winning patents in our leading lines such as Oga and Lightec. They are manufactured by Morel who have over 135 years of experience and know how.

Ocuco rolls out Zeiss Electronic Ordering Link at Optrafair.

Heidelberg Engineering is bringing their popular OCT LIVE format to Optrafair for the first time on Sunday 2nd April.

The CET accredited sessions, entitled “A day in the life of a Birmingham Optometrist” will take place on the Heidelberg Engineering stand, G20, and feature three patients whom local optometrist Peter Waite, has invited from his practice, K.G. Miles Optometrists.
