Grafton Optical announce the launch of the Novaerus Protect 200 and Protect 800

March 2021

Air Disinfection Systems - the first line of protection against airborne viruses and bacteria, including SARS-CoV-2

We each breathe around 11,000 litres of air per day, and in our places of work this is shared air. Contagious and easily transmitted pathogens need to be eradicated to help keep us healthy and safe. At Grafton Optical, our solution is the Novaerus Protect 200 and Protect 800 Air Disinfection system.

Protect 200 from Grafton
NanoStrike is the core, patented technology that powers all Novaerus portable air disinfection devices. Developed by the Novaerus team of scientists and engineers, NanoStrike utilises an atmospheric plasma discharge - the same type of discharge found in lightning strikes - to kill and deactivate harmful airborne microorganisms. This patented, non-chemical, ultra-low energy plasma technology is powerful enough to eradicate pathogens on contact, yet gentle enough to use around even the most vulnerable.

Tested and validated to fight Coronavirus - the Novaerus NanoStrike technology has been tested against the bacteriophage MS2, a substitute for SARS-CoV-2 (Coronavirus). The Aerosol Research and Engineering laboratory has shown that Novaerus reduces the airborne viral load by 99.99%.

• Clean air, all day every day
• Plug and play
• No filters or consumables – no ongoing costs
• Medical grade plasma technology with proven clinical benefits
• Mobile and quiet - can be fixed to the wall or placed on a piece of furniture and plugs into any electrical outlet using less power than a light bulb
• Does not emit bright light or harmful by-products
• 2-year warranty

Protect 200

Designed to continuously disinfect air in small spaces, the Protect 200 is equipped with the patented NanoStrike decontamination system combined with a single fan speed. Mobile and quiet, the Protect 200 can be fixed to a wall or placed on a piece of furniture and plugs into any electrical outlet using less power than a light bulb. Protect 200 has been designed to be placed as close as possible to the patient or healthcare professional and does not emit bright light or harmful by-products.

Protect 800

Designed to continuously disinfect the air in small or medium spaces, the Protect 800 is equipped with the patented NanoStrike decontamination system combined with two fan speeds. Mobile and quiet, this equipment can be wall mounted or placed on a stand and plugs into any electrical outlet.

* tested using the Protect 800 on MS2 Bacteriophage, a surrogate for SARS-CoV-2.

BLACKFIN – New SS 2021 Optical Collection

March 2021

Design, light weight and innovation:

Blackfin introduces the new Spring/Summer 2021 optical collection in which titanium is interpreted in the hallmark style that distinguishes each of the brand’s lines.

West Derby
Colour and innovative workmanship take modern-design frames to the next level. Accessories that reinvent the concept of eyewear through ongoing experimentation while staying true to the brand’s identity.

Trendy frames originate in the Blackfin One line, re-imagined with an eye to the brand’s DNA.

St Denis

West Derby
(above) is a men’s style with a square shape and slender profiles, high bridge and straight brow-band, whereas the more generous unisex St. Denis (right) style has eye-catching round rims.

DanzicaThe latter’s bold personality is emphasized by the solid white or olive drab colors or vibrant two-tone options.

Instead, unmistakably feminine Danzica (left) radiates colour, the brand’s style signature, adding personality to the frame’s hexagonal rims.
Pastel shades contrast elegantly with metallic colors in an interplay of gentle contradistinctions.

St Lazar

From the Blackfin Aura line, the elegance of cellulose acetate sets apart Saint Lazar.

A delicate, feminine frame with lavish, perfectly round acetate rims that, anchored to the beta titanium structure, create a sophisticated contrast between the two materials for glamour-tech flair.

Fresno
In the Blackfin Razor line, known for its slim, ultra-light frames made with titanium sheet just 1 mm thick and patented one-piece hinge, Blackfin introduces Fresno (left) and Claire.

The former is a roomy, square men’s style with double bridge and a clear vintage vibe emphasized by the three-dimensionally sculpted nosepiece.

A Perfect Combination, one great frame range and two complementary stories

February 2021

Twenty years ago, STEPPER EYEWEAR began combining their ingenious TX5 plastic material with the high-tech metal, Titanium. From the start, this combination was a resounding success with materials ideally suited to eyewear with their complementary characteristics.

Stepper SI 30157‘Both are lightweight and hypoallergenic’ informs Peter Reeve, Managing Director of STEPPER UK Limited. ‘Choosing to use these materials together but in the parts of the frame where they offer most benefit to the wearer elevates eyewear where comfort and fit are taken to the next level.’

‘Continuing this successful combination is our new SI-30157,’ Peter adds. ‘The front is TX5 with Titanium lugs and temples.’

Creating the front from TX5 allows for the renowned STEPPER bridge to be constructed to the original German design created by Hans Stepper in 1970. The sculpted, ergonomic bridge sits gently on the wearers nose feeling light and soft; like silk.

TX5 keeps its shape and is unaffected by heat or sweat, but we are more immediately drawn to the aesthetics. Considered as a material with fashion potential, TX5 scores highly with its almost unlimited design and colouring possibilities allowing the designer’s vision to be a reality.

Titanium lugs and temples have inherent properties of rigidity and strength which seem to belie the almost weightless feel. Sophisticated ION plating techniques allow for colouring to work in harmony with the other frame elements.

‘This new addition is a welcome update to the lineage of these ever popular, STEPPER exclusive, women’s combination frames,’ concludes Peter.

The SI-30157 is available in a choice of three colour variations to match most skin tones and weighs just over two teaspoons of sugar (8.4g).

So let's bring some fun in our life and "Who Doesn’t Want More Fun?"

Stepper SI 30046
How much fun can you have with your glasses on? With the STEPPERS STS-30046, the answer is a resounding ‘more’.

Created for those who love style, but don’t take style too seriously (or want to pay serious money to get it), STEPPERS offer a diverse range of contemporary, colourful and wearable frames.

‘Where wearable means styling that suits AND feels good all day,’ stresses Peter Reeve, Managing Director STEPPER UK Limited. ‘The appeal of STEPPERS lies in their ‘lightweight’ approach to comfort, fashion and price!’

Reassuringly, the fun approach to these frames does not mean styles diverge from the original German design concept of Hans Stepper. The result is ‘eyewear fashion that fits’ that is true to the ophthalmic roots of the brand.

STS-30046 above
is a fresh take on the classic panto shape, the keyhole bridge gives a hint at the professional origins of STEPPERS as much as it adds character to the design. Colour variations offer crystal and opaque fronts with an on-trend ‘skeleton’ outline found on selected models.

Part of the fun is choosing a colour that is ‘more you’ whilst discovering the relative weightlessness (6.6g) and sublime comfort as you try on such a fashionable frame.

Eyelid hygiene device NuLids launched in the UK

February 2021

NuLids from Positive Impact
Positive Impact has introduced a new electronic eyelid hygiene device into the UK called NuLids. Aimed at independent practices, NuLids is an innovative therapy for the management of dry eye disease, Meibomian Gland Disfunction and blepharitis.

The device is quick and simple to use either in practice or by the patient at home. An eye cleaning foam, such as DemEx, is applied over the closed eyelid and NuLids then gently massages the eyelid, resulting in lid exfoliation and stimulating meibomian gland expression.

NuLids produces little or no aerosol spray making it a valuable option for practices during this time of Covid-19.

The device’s rotating disposable silicone Soft Tip is normally used for 15 seconds per eyelid twice and is timed by the device to aid compliance. As such the whole treatment usually takes just one minute per day, unless the practitioner deems it clinically necessary for more frequent use.

NuLids cleans bacteria and desiccated skin from the eyelid margin, de-capping and opening the meibomian glands. The massage breaks up stagnant meibum in the glands improving circulation.

“NuLids offers massage and cleaning in one go,” emphasised Positive Impact’s director of marketing and professional services, Nick Atkins, during a webinar on February 4 to officially launch the device. “Results from a multi-centre clinical study is the US showed the device was safely used by patients whilst delivering a statistically significant improvement in the signs and symptoms of Dry Eye Disease.”

Highlighting the potential business opportunities for independents, Mr Atkins said that the practitioner could treat the patient with NuLids and could then recommend or sell the product to them for ongoing home use, with practice revisits to check their compliance.

As part of the UK launch, NuLids is being offered in a practitioner’s pack containing 300 of the daily disposable tips, or as a patient pack with 30 of the soft tips, one month’s supply.

Positive Impact has an introductory offer in the patient’s pack offering a free Eye Doctor Premium Eye Compress and a box of Lid Wipes worth £25.

Danshari launches the new Capsule Collection entirely dedicated to women

February 2021

“COUP DE FOUDRE ROUGE”: A REAL MUST-HAVE!

Danshari Coup de Foudre rouge

Whether it's love at first sight or a thoughtful choice, women always have a soft spot for accessories that make them feel unique, and in particular for eyewear.
For this reason Danshari - Made in Japan eyewear brand which takes inspiration from the Zen Minimalist Philosophy - decided to present Coup de foudre rouge, the new exclusive Capsule Collection entirely dedicated to the female world.

A very evocative name was chosen for this collection - in English: red love at first sight - which combines the idea of falling in love at first sight with absolute passion. Passion for a collection of frames that wants to amaze with the refinement of lines, materials and details, a collection that enhances the characteristics of elegance and refinement of a dynamic woman with a great personality.

Coup de foudre rouge is composed by 7 models, available in the 3 combinations of materials which characterise all Danshari collections: acetate, titanium and combined. The three shades of colour are: black acetate, havana acetate and red passion - to reflect the collection evocative name - matched with titanium and beta titanium in silver, gold, rose gold and bronze.

Coupe de foudre rouge was born from the same fundamental concepts: essentiality, minimalism and quality. This is why special attention was paid to the fitting and weight balancing of all models, so that their fit would be perfect, ergonomic and comfortable. The attention in the choice of materials can also be seen in every detail, such as the temple lamination carried out by Japanese artisans which combines acetate temples with a flexible core in beta titanium.

A capsule collection designed for demanding women who like to distinguish themselves with style!

More about Danshari

Danshari - eyewear brand Made in Japan funded by Giuseppe La Boria - made its debut on the market at the beginning of 2020 with an exclusive collection made of acetate and pure Japanese titanium. Danshari offers extremely light and flexible frames, with a refined and elegant design.

In line with the Zen Minimalist philosophy from which the brand takes inspiration, the collection was designed to offer the consumers timeless eyewear capable of satisfying their only true desire: the need for beauty, quality and essentiality.

BLACKFIN AERO – the essence of lightness

February 2021

An eloquent name exemplifies its features: Blackfin introduces AERO, the new line of rimless optical frames. Of Greek origin, the word AERO is synonymous with air and thus, lightness, ensured by ultra-thin, highly prized beta titanium rims.

Blackfin Aero Range

The technical traits of these frames take their cue from the world of aeronautics.

The Blackfin team has invested more than two years in AERO in order to craft a unique, minimalist product that fuses pure design and extreme functionality in the name of innovation. Each AERO style is made with a 0.7 mm thin sheet of beta titanium for the bridge – ensuring absolute frame stability – and 0.5 mm for the temples, to ensure flexibility and a comfortable fit. Unique in shape but traditional in its micro-mechanics, the hinge lends an air of solidity and can be easily adjusted.

The pairing of technical features and aesthetic details led to the creation of two different bridge concepts: one geometric, with bolder, angular shapes; and one retro, more refined and agile, that lends futuristic flair to the classic rimless styles of the late 1800s. But the true innovation in these frames is the new patented lens fastener. Drawn directly from the end pieces, the protrusion becomes a distinctive, minimalist detail.

The Blackfin AERO line comprises 20 lens shapes and 20 colors, 10 for each bridge type. Specifically, the colors are divided into 4 macro-families: monocolor (solid colors, to highlight the product’s minimalist roots), bicolor (combination of two colors, internal and external), antique (hand-colored for an antiqued effect) and shiny (polished silver and gold).

Blackfin AERO are fitted with a new version of the more streamlined TILT PAD nose pads, better suited to the aesthetics and weight of the frame, as well as the adjustable Swordfish temple tips.
Introduced to the public through a series of photographs, the new AERO frames are portrayed above fire-blackened wood cubes handcrafted using the Japanese Yakisugi technique – a visual reference to the art installation created for the To the roots ad campaign.

This line joins the increasingly vast yet consistent Blackfin portfolio, which will expand brand perception from mono-product toward a more structured and complete product range, but one that always has titanium at its core.

Blackfin One, the main collection, imbued with all the brand’s DNA; Blackfin Aura, where titanium intersects with and is enhanced by cellulose acetate rims; Blackfin Razor, all the best of Blackfin in an even lighter version; and now Blackfin Aero, rimless like you’ve never seen them before.

LIGHTBIRD launches the Light_SOCIAL Collection

February 2021

Comfort, colour and a new price range for LIGHTBIRD's first optical collection: made entirely of acetate, it embodies the innovative dynamism of the Belluno-based brand.

Novelties in LIGHTBIRD. To celebrate the brand's third year, designer Corrado Rosson launches the new Light_SOCIAL optical collection. Characterized by a dynamic and practical design, the three women's and three men's models are dedicated to acetate lovers and defined by the comfortable flex temple already present in the two previous collections.

"I wanted to maintain this type of structure because I believe that a pair of prescription glasses, which most users wear on a daily basis, must above all be comfortable and convenient regardless of the material, color or price", Corrado Rosson commented.

The new Light_SOCIAL collection features a special feeling guaranteed by the tested structure and marked design, resulting from a technological interweaving of facets created with a diamond cutter.

The shapes, very contemporary and dynamic, are inspired to a classic design and addressed to young and youthful people who want to wear the style and elegance of LIGHTBIRD’s Made in Italy.

"The name LIGHT_SOCIAL wants to underline the “speaking” nature of the eyewear accessory that never fails to tell something about the person that wears it, without the need for words. Moreover, the QR-code on the temple tip of each frame, transforms the glasses into a socialization tool closely linked to our Light_NEST website.”

ABBRACCIO the new LOOK-made in Italia communication campaign

January 2021

With a gesture that symbolically encompasses the depth of emotional ties, LOOK-made in Italia presents its new 2021 communication campaign: ABBRACCIO.

Look Abbraccio Campaign ~touch
In this exceptional moment in history, where a lack of contact and social distancing are rewriting the dynamics of our relationships, the Company wants to emphasize values as a cure, protection and affection, seen here in a series of delicate shots in which emphasis is put on the main characters with gentle lighting and a harmonious colour scheme.

Colour that brings warmth, because a hug (abbraccio in Italian), is the contact between two or more people and contact creates warmth.

Tender gestures between a man, woman and child, almost a dance with a neoclassical feel, represent the beauty of the deep emotions that keep people connected. Trust turns into a loving touch, a family embrace.

Look Abbraccio Campaign ~hug
The campaign embraces the entire LOOK-made in Italia range with a single visual, from premium kids to premium and high-end adult.

Quality and excellence in every gesture, in every action are but the natural expression of our dedication and commitment, and the passion that drives us underpins a pure and sincere human component. On all levels, personal or professional.

Hugs are the warmest and most joyful gesture of all.

They mark new friendships, old loves, the firm bond in a couple and the strong connection between family members.

They are a universal language used by adults and children alike.

Hugging is a simple and instinctive human act which today we are forced to limit, but which reminds us that only deep and authentic bonds will let us overcome the present and face tomorrow with determination.

BLACKFIN – "TO THE ROOTS"

January 2021

New Ad campaign featuring Venice Lagoon

…The Lagoon is the place of our roots, our origins, it’s a part of us. It’s where we rediscover our fragility…

In order to lend meaning to what we are today, we need to look back, all the way to our roots, and start from there to understand the journey that has brought us thus far.

It is a powerful realization, more necessary today than ever before, an awareness that adds purpose to the quest for identity and responsibility that Blackfin undertook years ago, in which every action is taken based on a principle of integrity that, for the company, is summed up in neomadeinitaly.

The new 2021 advertising campaign adds a new layer of meaning to this journey.

To The Roots Blackfin new ad campaign TO THE ROOTS: only by returning to our essence, that is, only by digging deep into our origins can we gain full awareness of our own state of wholeness.

Primeval shots, set in an ethereal, timeless landscape, one in which the desire to view beauty powerfully but accurately emerges, because beauty should not be an end in itself but a mirror of mindful choices.

Thanks to the location, the message is conveyed in a subtle but assertive manner.

Venice’s Laguna Nord is still pristine, yet just a few minutes by boat from Piazza San Marco. A place-not-place constantly in motion between land and sea, where nature is real, pure and, at the same time, fragile.

The laguna is a lung that, following the rhythm of the tides, purifies itself every six hours in an endless rise and fall that epitomizes – during this time in which we are overwhelmed by a terrible storm – how fragility is the only way to stay in balance. But to be in balance, one must be solid, that is, have roots and be aware of possessing them. A solidity expressed visually by the larch planks, a temporary work of land art placed in the water as a singular vertical element, a stylized symbol of mooring posts, the huge poles that mark the navigable areas of the canals.

Planks blackened by fire using the ancient Japanese technique of Yakisugi and sunk into the laguna mud. Following the lay of the sandbars, they lend shape to a verticality that becomes an interplay of endless reflections with the models who, blending with the artistic installation, establish a physical, yet fleeting, presence.

TO THE ROOTS

There are places where fragility and balance
are as obstinate, unstoppable and patient as life itself.
These places aren’t compatible with modern times, they are timeless.

The Lagoon is the place of our roots,
our origins, it’s a part of us.
It’s where we rediscover our fragility,
as if enveloped in a primordial slime,
in a reality which is almost a paradox of existence.

Anchored to fleeting elements, we stay balanced.

Time here is without contours or borders,
It’s the moment water becomes silent
and takes on the shape and appearance of its surroundings.

Time stops, the space becomes another world.
It’s like reaching the peak of ecstasy, after which life regenerates.
And thanks to its roots, stays balanced.

Choose fun, Choose Colour but Always Choose Comfort

January 2021

Stepper STS-30050 If you’re investing in eyewear that reflects your personality you can easily be swayed by the look alone.

But if you want to keep loving that frame long after your first smitten, make sure it loves you too.

‘STEPPERS frames are designed with ‘fit for life’ characteristics so they feel just as good when you take them off at the end of the day as they did when you first put them on,’ comments Peter Reeve, Managing Director STEPPER UK Ltd.

The STEPPERS STS-30050 has ‘fit for life’ characteristics in abundance starting with the material it’s made of – TX5.

This innovative plastic is lighter than traditional acetate, putting less pressure onto the touch points of the face, so often the source of discomfort. For a design of this type, a weight of just 6.6g is commendable.

The front is moulded in a single process so the anatomical curve is set and will not change over time. So, the fit you first experience will continue throughout its lifetime.

An integral bridge on the STEPPERS STS-30050 is the result of decades of experience in creating best-fit nose shapes began by the founder Hans Stepper, himself a German Master Optician.

And for those with sensitive skin, you can relax, TX5 is also hypoallergenic so wearers won’t be troubled by skin reactions too often associated with long term frame wear.

But these are all the things you can’t see. So much of the appeal of a STEPPERS frame is its design and colouring. The STS-30050 has an easy to wear contemporary shape that can be fine-tuned to your personal style through an array of colour options; Crystal, Hot Pink, Electric Blue and Jade.

‘When you look good you feel good and this STEPPERS ensures this feel-good effect is long lasting,’ concludes Peter.

Accelerate refraction, without compromising accuracy

As an extension to the Vision-R portfolio, the new equipment obtains a speedy refraction in only three minutes to help reduce the length of an eye examination, whilst achieving accurate and repeatable results.

The innovative technology incorporates a multiple increment algorithm and a series of patient specific smart programmes incorporating Digital Infinite Refraction to shorten the process and give an exact 0.25D refraction.

Instruments director, Paul Cumber said: “By reducing chair time, the new phoropter could help practices see up to two extra patients a day.

“This is invaluable amongst current COVID-19 restrictions and ECPs having to cut back on appointments because of social distancing and lengthy cleaning regimes.”

The Vision-R700 suits a business model of speed and volume of appointments. Unlike the original Vision-R800 model which involves a longer examination to refract precise prescription for personalised lens.

It shares all the innovation of the existing 800 model to give a traditional accuracy step but cuts the testing time in half by halving the measurement stages.

With the ability to be operated up to seven metres away it respects social distancing measures and will help boost consumer confidence during an eye examination.

Paul Cumber added: “It has been specifically designed for practices who see a high quantity of patients each day and makes an ideal upgrade option for ECPs currently using a trial frame and looking for a new phoropter for speedier refractions.

“Until now, the only way to shorten the traditional procedure of bracketing sphere, cylinder and axis independently was by cutting crucial steps. This leads to bigger variances and an estimation of the prescription.

“Using the phoropter will help practices obtain repeatable results to eliminate the discrepancy you can get with a traditional subjective refraction. If a patient returned each year for an eye examination but saw a different optom, there should still be consistency with the outcome.”

Less labour intensive for the patient and ECP

Vision R700 from Essilor The Vision-R700 makes the eye examination less labour intensive for the patient and ECP too. It is designed to be a shorter test time, with a smoother refraction flow that makes it easier to answer for the patient and less tiring because of the algorithms and optical module.

The changes are quick, quiet and concise, and the patients can see the difference much easier than if there was a delay. This all creates a more pleasant patient experience with the option to show old versus new prescriptions to aid conversations.

It was developed with ease of use as its starting point and guides the practitioner from start to finish. The ECP only needs to record data, while the phoropter changes the dioptric values and relevant tests to achieve the final result.

The phoropter is also much easier to clean than a traditional trial frame which helps speed up the cleaning time between patient appointments.

Vision-R700 technology

• Thanks to the optical module, the new Digital Infinite Refraction process automatically compensates for the effect that any change in sphere, cylinder and axis has on one of the other dimensions.

• The phoropter incorporates an exclusive breakthrough optical module. It allows for much smaller incremental power changes making the switch significantly smoother for the patient.

• With dedicated smart programs and algorithms, the Vision-R700 phoropter controls accuracy by using smaller and larger increments of the continuous lens.

• Continuous compensation on sphere, cylinder and axis ensures accuracy, as answers are based on compensated powers, eliminating the need for estimated lens compensation.

• Smooth and instant transition between multiple dioptric powers, eliminating unwanted stimulus and controlling accommodation.

• Vertex distance is measured to the millimetre and controllable from a distance. Combined with the automatic compensation to the reference vertex distance, accuracy is controlled right to the end.

NEW LOOK-made in Italia MODELS – COMBINED STYLE

December 2020

When excellent raw materials are studied and worked by a company that has made research one of its strategic assets for over 40 years, the result can only be extraordinary. The new combined frames by LOOK-made in Italia are a concentration of design, technology and craftsmanship all in one to satisfy the demands of the public in every age group.

Once again material takes the leading role, sculpted to give shape to high performance glasses. First the material is transformed and evolves to the point that it even acquires its own name: it's no longer steel but Xinox (a high-tech steel that can be reduced to minimal thicknesses while maintaining its mechanical qualities unaltered, but with +30% flexibility compared to a generic steel), it's no longer acetate but Cello (an exceptional quality cellulose acetate worked to obtain an elastic performance superior to any other acetate).

Look 10773M3

In the ADULT segment, the LOOK COMBI 10773 model (left) is a LOOK-made in Italia must have as it encompasses all their style and technical skills. The frame has wide, slightly elongated rims in Cello, outlined with a slim Xinox edging which highlights the brow line and gives the frame a very glamourous look. Furthermore, the union of the two materials without the use of screws highlights the impeccable engineering involved.

Look 10735 M2 from LOOK

In the LOOK COMBI 10735 model (right), the combination of the two materials focuses on comfort, without sacrificing style. The use of Cello in the anatomical bridge and tips gives a particularly pleasant feeling when worn whilst the Xinox rims, as well as the temples, guarantee light weight and good stability. The choice of multicolor acetates adds a touch of personality.

Look 3472 M3 form Look
In the KID segment the combination of Xinox and EVO gives origin to LOOKKINO 3472 (left) , a frame that recalls the woman's shape of the LOOK COMBI 10773 model. In the girl's version. however, attention to facial wellbeing is even more apparent thanks to the choice of the eyepiece in EVO, a specific material for junior frames since it ensures a soft feel and comfort when wearing, as well as being non-allergenic and non-toxic.

Raw materials have something extra: LOOK-made in Italia quality.

STEPPER EYEWEAR Looks Forward by Looking Back.

December 2020

SI20073 from Stepper
As STEPPER EYEWEAR passes 50 years of creating comfortable and stylish quality frames, Hans Stepper has taken the opportunity to revisit some of his earliest styles.

As part of the ‘STEPPER EYEWEAR First Collection’ the retro and distinctive SI-20073 is now available in a selection of 21st century colour options.

‘Reopening the design book and approaching classic models with the accumulated knowledge, skills and (most importantly) advanced materials and manufacturing, presents an excellent opportunity not only to reinvent the past, but to make it even better’ explains Hans Stepper.

Today, STEPPER EYEWEAR has TX5, Titanium and Beta-Titanium at its fingertips to deliver frames that are as good to look at as they are beautifully made. Also, colour possibilities are now almost limitless making the frames very relevant to a modern audience.

In its original carnation, this style was already considered ‘retro’, reflecting even earlier classic frame designs. ‘A good design is always a good design, and this style is evergreen’, adds Hans.

What is timeless is the enduring comfort and fit which were the foundations of the STEPPER brand. This SI-20073 is a perfect celebration of this.

The new Optishield for Hands-Free Visual Assessments

December 2020

Grafton Optical the launch of OPTISHIELD; the flexible optical occluder made of soft medical grade silicone.

Optishield from GraftonThis simple and clever concept fits neatly onto the spectacle lens allowing good coverage when conducting visual assessments.

Knowing that the Optishield is sitting securely in the right place gives the optometrist the confidence to concentrate on the test taking place instead of the positioning of the occluder. This results in an examination that is more comfortable for both clinician and patient. This becomes particularly valuable when testing young patients who are more mobile.

The frosted Optishield is also ideally suited to testing paediatric patients who may become concerned when occluded with black paddles.

A formative usability study recently completed by the Medical Devices Technical Evaluation Centre based at Birmingham University Hospitals found a very high level of acceptance among optometrists. The study identified a 100% completion success rate, with the highly experienced participants perceiving the device as a helpful aid to enable hands-free working, resulting in a direct positive impact on their usual clinical practice.

Optishield from GraftonThe CE approved Optishield is lightweight, easy to mount on most spectacle frame sizes and will sit neatly into a lens box in consulting rooms in between use. OptiShield sold individually in black or frosted white and are available at £12 each from www.graftonoptical.com/product-page/optishield-flexible-occluder.

The Optishield has the following advantages over traditional occluders

• Hands-free visual assessments
• Long lasting silicone material
• Sits neatly into a lens box in the consulting room between use
• Soft and flexible, won’t scratch expensive lenses
• Hygienic, can be washed and dried
• Suitable for a range of spectacle frames
• No pressure on the eye, with good air circulation

THE New LOOK-made in Italia Models " PLASTIC VISIONS"

November 2020

Materials that can be moulded and transformed prove their excellence in the new LOOK-made in Italia products: over 40 years of history, continuous research and specific skills allow design frames which can be worn at any age to be created.

Look NIL 4949The experience gained by this company, which has always designed and produced its eyewear in Italy, has been transferred to models. For reasons of cross/up selling it has put the materials at the centre of attention as an emotional lever and to add value to the purchase.

In the LOOK-made in Italia Research&Development department, improvements and considerations are taken seriously - that is how the materials evolve and are tested to achieve the best performance and absolute quality.

In the plastic material category NIL (Natural Injection Light) - an advanced techno-polymer whose particles are moulded into original, balanced shapes to create ultra-lightweight glasses and EVO (EVOlution polymer) - a soft-touch material particularly indicated for children's eyewear - both stand out.

Look Rubber
EVO 5356 Amongst the new models in the KID segment is the LOOKKINO Rubber EVO 5356 (right) . It was already present in the collection but is now offered made almost entirely In NIL to guarantee an even lighter feel and more elasticity in a high performing product. Available in delicate pastel colours such as pink and blue, it's perfect for boys and girls in the 8-10 year age group.

The ADULT segment includes the LOOK NIL 4949 model (top left) - a unisex frame with a wide, round front piece in NIL and slim temples in Japanese titanium. A distinctive feature is the no-screw fastening between the endpiece and temple which takes advantage of the materials' qualities to guarantee practicality in use and a sure fit.

Both EVO and NIL are non-allergenic and non-toxic. Both are born in a solid state and through a process of high temperature fusion become fluid, are put into a mould, and solidify into molecular structures with an incredible overall elasticity.

All the models in NIL and EVO have a transparent supply chain as they are designed and produced entirely in Italy by LOOK-made in Italia.

LIGHTBIRD "Plays" with Shapes and bets on Alternative Materials

October 2020

The Belluno-based brand introduces BAOBAB and SNAKE, two women's eyewear models in pure copper and brass.

The innovative patented gluing system, together with cellulose acetate, create unique, lightweight and glittering frames.

Spotlights on new materials for the new LIGHTBIRD models, designed by Corrado Rosson: two optical frames in pure copper and brass.

The new entries, BAOBAB and SNAKE, expand and enrich the LIGHT_MIRROR collection, presented last summer.

Two women's optical frames that - thanks to the trendy shapes, the care to detail and shininess of the materials – manage to enhance contemporary looks. If copper and brass already have natural characteristics that make them original, the mirror polishing and the special coating, capable of maintaining their characteristics unchanged over time, make them truly unique: they become indeed conductors also of style and elegance.

The Light_MIRROR Collection well represents the characteristics of LIGHTBIRD: innovation, design and material.

The choice of the materials is once again the protagonist and highlights the patented gluing system, which allows to obtain a perfect coupling of the surfaces. Moreover, the design gives the collection a remarkable aesthetic impact, almost a magic that gives life to a new and light model with a strong contemporary character.

LIGHTBIRD’s innovation and technology are also featured in this sun collection through the digital loyalty system Light_NEST. The QR-Code on each frame helps to establish a more dynamic connection and interaction between the company, the optician and the end customer.

‘When gold standards change: time to move on from Goldmann tonometry?’

October 2020

Peer pressure….. when will you make the change?

ORA G3 from Grafton

Grafton Optical announce the recent publication of the article ‘When gold standards change: time to move on from Goldmann tonometry?’ in the British Journal of Ophthalmology; representing an important landmark for the Reichert ORA G3 and demonstrating its widely held acceptance among key opinion leaders as the preferred method for measuring IOP.

The article published in this month’s British Journal of Ophthalmology discusses the clear benefits of using the Reichert Ocular Response Analyser (ORA) G3 over Goldmann Applanation Tonometry, and suggests that now is the time for a shift in the clinically accepted ‘gold standard’. It notes that GAT ‘makes important assumptions about corneal thickness and behaviour that are not met in a significant proportion of patients’.¹ In fact, GAT has ‘significant limitations that make it suboptimal and far from the ideal reference standard’.²

‘While many tonometers can reproducibly measure IOP, evidence is fast accumulating that cornea corrected IOP (IOPcc) as measured with the ORA G3, is a better measure of IOP than GAT and should be used more widely.’³

The article goes on to say

‘Studies have shown that ORA-derived IOPcc measurements are superior to GAT in predicting rates of glaucoma progression’.⁴

The article concludes ‘there is a myriad of reasons to abandon GAT and shift to ORA, but most importantly we rely on IOP as a guide to caring for patients. Ultimately the measure of IOP that best predicts who will get worse is the device most able to help us make the right decisions’.⁵

ORA G3 also offers substantial cost savings versus all other methods of tonometry. Grafton Optical have published an online business case calculator which demonstrates how much money can be saved by hospitals and practices who chose to make the switch.

The Pro's

ORA G3 • Huge cost savings versus all other methods of tonometry – take the challenge to see what you could save.

• Operate a drop free clinic - no drops, no dilation, no prisms, no disposables or consumables. Just walk in and test.

• Be confident that your readings are accurate with the Waveform Reliability Score. Minimal training is required and fast, objective results are guarenteed, independent of the operator.

• ORA® G3 and 7CR are the only devices that feature Corneal Compensated Intraocular Pressure (IOPcc), a better indication of the true pressure, proven to be less influenced by corneal properties than Goldmann or other methods of tonometry

• ORA® G3 is the only device capable of measuring Corneal Hysteresis (CH), shown to be a significant risk factor for glaucoma development and progression. Click here to read the NICE MedTech Innovation

Briefing on the use of the ORA G3 to measure CH

This is a very exciting time for the ORA G3, as recognition for the device gathers pace amongst some of the UK’s most respected institutions. As the BMJ article succinctly puts it, ‘ORA is clearly a better alternative’ and now is the time for change.

Reichert Technologies are also hosting a webinar as part of their remote learning series titled ‘Safe and superior glaucoma technology with Corneal Hysteresis’. The webinar takes place on Thursday 22 October and further details and registration can be found here.

New VARILUX COMFORT MAX for Postural Flexibility from Essilor

September 2020

Varilux Comfort Max Ranges

Essilor Ltd has launched a new generation of its iconic varifocal lens, Varilux Comfort Max, designed to bring postural flexibility and reduced eye strain to wearers.

Varilux Comfort Max uses Flex Optim technology to stretch the ‘useful vision zone’ of the lens by up to 46 per cent to help wearers see naturally without having to struggle to find the right gaze direction or the right posture.

Tim Precious, managing director at Essilor Ltd said: “The lens has been specifically created for people with busy lifestyles who take part in activities that result in static postures or cause prolonged strain on the eyes.

“By providing a stretched useful vision zone, Varilux Comfort Max lens maximises the wearer’s postural flexibility and allows them to see sharply and more comfortably.”

Essilor Varilux Comfort Max

New Flex Optim technology personalises the lens design to provide good all-round visual performances, allowing them to adopt up to 258 more postures and head movements to see sharply.

Based on results from a LiveOptics innovation process and in-depth knowledge of wearers’ visual needs and behaviours, a total of 15 different vision profiles were defined and made available for Varilux Comfort Max lenses.

These vision profiles are categorised by addition and by ametropia, meaning that wearers are associated with the vision profile that best matches their visual needs and preferences.

Starting from a given vision profile, it adjusts the power progression curve to each prescription, ensuring optimal equilibrium across the vision.

Essilor Varilux Comfort Max
“We are committed to our research and development and have responded to the current challenges faced in today’s digital environment to provide a reliable new solution to offer to patients.

“This could help attract patients to try a varifocal lens for the first time and also helps widen the appeal of varifocal lenses to a younger audience with digital eye strain.

“The launch forms part of our on-going mission of improving lives by improving sight, while continuing our role to be the best business partner for independent practices,” Tim Precious added.

Patient leaflets and window posters will be available to support the launch.

Varilux Comfort Max launches on 5 October.

OKO by OKO Paris. The new release ‘BABETTE’.

September 2020

With that little extra something.

OKO by OKO Babette
Babette has been designed to draw attention to the wearer’s natural brow line, just like the iconic retro models which were popular in the 60s.

But contrary to those eyeglasses characterized by thick frames, the Babette frame is very light, thin and comfortable.

Its elegant silhouette offers a smart material combination from the stainless steel of the overall frame contrasting with the colored acetate eyebrow line giving it that little extra something.

OKO by OKO Babette

Women with character will for sure appreciate that designer touch.

And there, we realize the obvious: everything is consciously and elegantly offbeat, as if the brand gave life to its ideas and its creations by thinking only of one thing: allow the wearer to reveal himself and dare to display his personality.

KOMONO FW 20 Optical Collection

September 2020

A thoughtful extension to the optical collection, the Fall/Winter 2020 season is all about smart detailing and luxury finishes.

With the introduction of six new styles and a range of sophisticated colorways such as Blue Fog, Obscure and Tornado, the collection offers a welcome addition and a fresh take on some of KOMONO’s most beloved styles.

Komono Omar

Omar
(left) joins the previously introduced Mario, Uma and Jeff with its distinct massive quality and luxury feel, and adds an accessible fit to suit all ages.

A young, fresh and more feminine style is introduced with the Gina while the Clark (Right) incorporates a masculine, straightforward, timeless approach.

Komono Clark

These styles are counterbalanced by the atypical, quirky roundness of the Jack. The Robin is an addition to the ultrathin series while the Damien, a carryover from our sun collections, will prove to be an instant classic.

This focus on careful design is nowhere as clear as in the newly introduced Wing Collection.

Komono Yoko
Two of KOMONO’s most celebrated styles, the rounded Dean and soft rectangular Oscar, are adorned with a side wing detail to create a tension and add a bold and edgy counterbalance to these more classic frames.

The Dusty and Yoko (left)completes the collection with a new aviator shape.

ESSILOR offers HD Dry Eye Diagnosis

September 2020

Essilor Ltd has taken on the sole distribution of IDRA by SBM Sistemi to offer ECPs advanced high definition testing for dry eye.

IDRA from EssilorIDRA performs a full assessment of the ocular surface via a series of quick tear film tests, including the quality of tears and analysis of the meibomian glands, to classify the type of dry eye disease.

A 3D image is produced to help practitioners analyse and understand the eye lid structure. The image can also be shared with a patient to explain the cause of their discomfort and aid treatment recommendations.

When used alongside the TearStim Dry Eye treatment, it can provide ECPs with a complete diagnosis and treatment service for patients living with the most common cause of dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD).

Tim Precious, managing director at Essilor Ltd said: “Market data indicates people suffering from dry eye are increasingly seeking treatment.

“It’s a clear growth area and practices looking to broaden their services should consider offering a dry eye clinic to help existing patients and attract new customers through the doors.

“The new imaging system is a compact and cost-effective piece of kit which ultimately provides strong evidence to support your choice of treatment, while helping the patient understand why that therapy is being recommended.”

While IDRA confirms whether the cause is MGD, TearStim uses Intense Regulated Pulsed Light technology (IRPL) to stimulate the meibomian gland into functioning properly again.

A special package price is available to ECPs who purchase both pieces of equipment.

Tim continues: “Offering these two pieces of equipment side by side will provide a complete solution to dry eye management and offer excellent commercial value for optical practices.

“Treating dry eye is very important both for the patient's comfort and for the long-term health of the surface of the eye. The launch supports our on-going mission of improving lives by improving sight, while continuing our role to be the best business partner for independent practices.”

How IDRA works

IDRA conducts research on the lipid, aqueous, mucin layers and meibomian glands.

• The software automatically detects the coloured lipids on the patient’s eye and determines lipid layer thickness (LLT). In a few seconds it is possible to get automatically relevant data to understand functionality of meibomian glands.

• The aqueous layer is evaluated through the non-invasive “tear meniscus” test and is then classified into different categories. Through one image focused on the lower tear meniscus, IDRA measures the aqueous production in five different points to calculate an average.

• The stability of the mucin layer and the whole tear film is assessed through the study of the break-up time (BUT) or non-invasive break up time (NIBUT), by using a placido cone projected onto the cornea. IDRA projects a structured image on the ocular surface and automatically finds all breakings of the tear film during the recorded video.

• The device can automatically detect the length and width of meibomian glands shown thanks to infrared meibography without requiring any input from the user.

• It also automatically detects and analyses blinking.

In practice, IDRA sits between the slit lamp and biomicroscope, fitting perfectly into the gap created when the plate used for the tonometer is removed.

New MATERIKA TITANIUM – Material Becomes ART

August 2020

Look 76021 LOOK–made in Italia presents the new Materika Titanium models, made from fine Japanese titanium and exclusive Italian Mazzucchelli acetate.

Synonymous with quality and attention to detail, the acetate rims are a feature that highlight, almost by contrast, the ultra-slim frame and bring it to life thanks to the choice of a soft havana colour palette.

Pantos, cat-eye, double-bridge aviator and square: four slimline models in extremely light-weight beta-titanium in classic shapes with material thickness reduced to a minimum.

The MHS (Materika Hinge System) perpetual movement hinge, a patented system which gives the frame optimal functional performance, is an exclusive detail of these glasses.

Characterised by the iconic minimal ridged cylinder element, the structure serves as both a hinge and rim end, eliminating the need for screws.

The new Materika Titanium models - which will be presented to the public during the next edition of DaTE from 19th to 21st September in Florence - represent the ideal choice for those in pursuit of a frame with a strong personality and timeless style.

A Breath of Clean Air from Norville 20/20 and Frame UV Steriliser ensuring spectacle frames are 100% Sterile

August 2020

Jade Air Purifier
UV-C Surgically Clean Air™ the Medical Grade JADE Air Purifier has excellent performance in Hospitals, Medical Labs Ophthalmic and Dental Clinics to clean and sterilize the indoor air.

Could be the perfect soltion for your practice?

TECHNOLOGY

The Jade model utilizes Surgically Clean Air's multi-stage air purifying technologies that work together to clean, purify and re-energize the indoor air.

The multi stage filtration system captures dust particles, pollen, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), mould, allergens, viruses, odours, bio-aerosols, nitrous oxide and many other pollutants that are found in inside practice air.

The negative ion generator makes indoor feel more pure, clean and energized to help combat fatigue.

For an air purifier to deliver its benefits throughout the indoor space it needs to move large volumes of air through its filtration system effectively without impacting those people that are closest to it by creating a 'breeze' or being too loud.

The FUSION UV-C Disinfecting Unit – Clinical Grade

The Fusion UV uses germicidal UV irradiation the short wavelength of UV-C to neutralise viruses while containing the light safely in a compact table top unit.

Fusuion UV-c
The goal was to create a device that could quickly disinfect spectacle frames after customers touch them during their visit. But there is a much broader practice application: for example trial frames, trial lenses, face masks and as a disinfection devise for dentist and hairdresser’s tools.

It can hold up to 12 to 18 frames can be disinfected in 2 minutes. Position the frame temples open at 40° to subject all the frame components to the UV light. 6 pieces of KN95/N95 masks can be disinfected in approximately 3 minutes. You can reuse the masks up to 7 times.

UVC is a short wavelength that disinfects the surfaces of things. The only time UVC should damage frames is when acetate is exposed for a long period of time.

2-3 minutes should not harm the frames.

If the device is not closed and secured, the unit will not turn on and the green light will not illuminate. Very safe.

Uses UVC lamps rather than LED lighting to create higher energy, quicker results to increase the speed of disinfecting.

Special glass rods unlike regular glass transmit UVC light to effectively penetrate the item being disinfected.

Other devices use glass or a “grill” to hold the item being disinfected and the light cannot penetrate to disinfect at those touch points.

Why the Fusion UV?

Most devices just disinfect 1 side, are slower and you have to “flip” the item that is being disinfected.

The Fusion UV is a clinical unit with technology that has been tested and used by hospitals in hard hit Covid19 areas in USA.

360° coverage leaving no UV shadows or voids. The device also uses real UV light lamps that are replaceable.

£875.00 (ex VAT & Carriage)

Dimensions are approximately 42 CM Wide, 40.5 CM Deep, 22 CM High. The overall exterior dimensions are 57 CM Wide, 49.5 CM Deep, 25.5 CM High. Weight is around 9 KG.

#SpraySafe with the New OPTASE® PROTECT Eye Spray: to fight viruses, bacteria and fungi.

July 2020

Harnessing the body’s own natural defence to kill 99.9999% of all known germs

“It is important now more than ever for patients to take care of their eyes,” says Optometrist Mandy Davidson. “OPTASE® PROTECT can help patients to limit their risk of contracting infections through their ocular surface.”

• New triple-action anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal spray OPTASE® PROTECT launches this week
• Containing the active ingredient hypochlorous acid (HOCl), OPTASE® PROTECT kills 99.9999% of all known germs
• Without knowing it, people touch their eyes every 20 minutes, increasing the risk of transmitting infections to their eyes
• Recommended use of only twice daily, OPTASE® PROTECT provides a convenient ‘Spray On, Leave On’ formula for eyelids and surrounding skin

Eyecare expert Scope has launched OPTASE® PROTECT – the first spray to provide triple-action anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal protection for the eyelids and surrounding skin.

The new preservative-free OPTASE® PROTECT provides an effective preventative solution against harmful germs on the eyes and surrounding area, thanks to its key ingredient - hypochlorous acid (HOCI).

OPTASE PROTECT kills 99.9999% of all known germs, which means there are few microbes remaining after the solution has been applied. This means, for every 5 million harmful microbes on the skin, OPTASE PROTECT leaves just 5. A solution that kills 99.9% of germs would leave 5,000.

HOCI is produced naturally by the body’s white blood cells as the first line of defence against harmful germs. Not only is HOCl a powerful molecule that is effective against invading bacteria, fungi, and viruses, but it is pH balanced, meaning it is safe and gentle on even the most sensitive skin around the eyes.

According to new research by Scope , the British public is more concerned about facial hygiene than ever before – with 67 per cent revealing that touching their face while outside, in a public setting, is a big worry.iii And rightly so - the average person touches hundreds of surfaces each day and touches their eyes on average 3 times per hourii, making the eyes particularly vulnerable to attack from unseen invaders such as viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

“Eyes can be a gateway to infection,” says Optometrist Mandy Davidson. “Without protection, harmful viruses, bacteria, and fungi can potentially enter the eyes which can lead to irritation, dryness and soreness on the ocular surface. If left untreated, these germs could even lead to more serious conditions.”

“It is important now, more than ever, for patients to take care of their eyes - OPTASE® PROTECT can help patients to limit their risk of contracting infections through their ocular surface.”
Ingredient spotlight: Hypochlorous acid

Optase from Scope • OPTASE PROTECT is made by using a proprietary method of electrolysis which converts a saltwater brine into one solution, a neutral anolyte of hypochlorous acid

• Contains a highly pure (99.6% HOCl), stable and pH balanced solution (pH 7) meaning it is a neutral formula, suitable for use on human skin

• OPTASE PROTECT has a stable shelf-life for up to 12 months from manufacturing without the need for added stabilisers

• Amongst the 99.9999% of all known germs, HOCl has proven efficacy against Listeria, Salmonella, E.coli, MRSA, Clostridium difficile ,

• HOCI can kill bacteria in as little as 0.55 seconds (E. Coli) to 60 seconds (C. Difficile)

• In cases of blepharitis, demonstrable benefits can be observed within 2 weeks, depending on condition and severity

#SpraySafe with OPTASE® PROTECT

Scope’s #SpraySafe campaign encourages and recommends that we all take care of our eye health every day to help prevent harmful germs from entering the body through the eyes.

• Simply spray OPTASE® PROTECT onto closed eyes, morning and evening, for 24-hour protection (ensure make-up is removed before spraying)
• Convenient ‘Spray On, Leave On’ formula
• Suitable for frequent daily use
• Scientifically formulated 99.6% pure HOCl
• Preservative free
• Suitable for all ages
• 12-month shelf life for long lasting use
• Helping you to #SpraySafe and keep eyes healthy, every day
• Retails at £9.95, up to 250 applications per bottle

Learn how Hypochlorous Acid work?

• Hypochlorous acid (HOCI) is the body’s natural defence against germs
• If invading germs begin to over-populate within the body, they can cause inflammation, irritation and infection
• Once the invading germs reach a certain level, they are detected by white blood cells
• The white blood cells then produce HOCI which destroys the invading germs within seconds
• OPTASE® PROTECT is 99.6% pure HOCI and works to kill 99.9999% of known bacteria, viruses and fungi

LIGHTBIRD launches Light_MIRROR Collection

June 2020

Light_MIRROR is the new collection that combines two unconventional materials. Pure Copper and Brass are joint to Cellulose Acetate to create unique, light and shiny frames, thanks to the innovative gluing system patented by the Belluno brand.

JUNE 2020- New season and new collection for LIGHTBIRD. The brand by Corrado Rosson launches Light_MIRROR, with frames in Pure Copper and Brass. Its BUSINESSMAN, FLOWER, SNAKE and BAOBAB models result shinier than ever, thanks to the natural characteristics of the materials, the mirror polishing and the special coating that helps keeping their shininess unchanged over time.

For designer Corrado Rosson: "Light_MIRROR Collection well represents the characteristics of LIGHTBIRD: innovation, design and material. The choice of the materials was once again our main focus: they highlight the patented gluing system that allows to obtain the perfect union of the surfaces. Moreover, the design gives the collection a remarkable aesthetic impact, almost like a magic that gives life to a new, lightweight and strong contemporary frame".

A metal and alloy already known for thousands of years: copper was already present in the Pyramids, while brass was widely used in the Roman Empire. These materials in constant evolution find today in Light_MIRROR a new cutting-edge application in the eyewear field, which leads to a further valorization of their preciousness. Copper and brass here become conductors, not only physical, but also of style and elegance.

It provides the wearer a slylish touch, like that of a contemporary Cleopatra who does not want to go unnoticed. The model is also available with the front in pure copper and acetate C064.

Light_MIRROR features Light_NEST’s, the technology and digital system. The system starts with the QR Code, present on each frame, and allows to establish a connection and a direct interaction between the company, the optician and the final customer. Paskal for engaging the youngest patients

June 2020

An almost cinema event with Minion specs and Peppa Pig is the way forward for many practices looking to engage youngsters believes IPRO which is promoting its Paskal 3D refraction technology.

The move away from a mundane letter chart is winning favour with the youngest patients, along with those with specials needs, as award winning Lincoln optometrist, Dr Martin Smith, has found -
OKO by OKO NY32

“I have 3D Minion goggles for the younger children and they are very keen to wear them. The system works well with youngsters as you don’t need to occlude but you can still test both eyes independently,” he said.

Martin,(above left) who has been using Paskal 3D for three years, likes the system for how it amuses the children with Kay pictures and an array of Paskal’s children’s options.

The added benefit of the system is how it can reveal the eyes’ functionality, both individually and togethe. “It is very good at establishing binocular vision and a nice picture helps immensely over just letters in retaining the children’s attention.”

Belfast’s Mackey Opticians also use Paskal 3D, as optometrist co-owner Mark Mackey said, “We find it brilliant as you are testing in a real life situation – people like the drama of 3D, and I like the way you can work out the prisms very easily. We use it on virtually everyone, but the children particularly respond very well to the sandcastle images and my ability to suddenly switch over to Apple TV and Peppa Pig for retinoscopy with three and four year olds is very good!”

Controlled by an iPad, Paskal 3D offers arm’s length refraction and can help to provide a very relaxed, but effective, eye examination with 80 different tests available.

Fog Free Vision for Key Workers

June 2020

Optifog Lens by EssilorEssilor Ltd has relaunched its Optifog lens after experiencing a high demand from ECPs who need a solution to prevent glasses misting under PPE.

The product is suitable for all patients and in particular those who are now wearing PPE as part of their daily lives and who have experienced issues with their current spectacles.

Tim Precious, managing director at Essilor Ltd said: “Fogging reduces visibility and compromises patient care and the key worker’s personal safety.

“The Optifog lens will stop misting becoming a hazard in emergency situations where clear vision is crucial. In doing so, it will provide greater visibility, greater comfort and less fogging for key workers.”

Optifog has unique, hydrophilic top layers with inherent fog repellent properties. These top layers are activated thanks to the specific molecules of the innovative Optifog smart textile. Droplets that would usually result in fog and inhibit vision spread uniformly across the lens, for an invisible and fog-free effect.

The range includes clear Varilux X Series, Varilux E Series, Eyezen and Rx single vision lenses. It’s also available as a first and second pair option on the Take Two multi-pair promotion.

“The lens has been used successfully in other countries during the pandemic to help key workers experience clear vision under PPE.

“We’ve listened to ECPs and the relaunch gives them a solution to this particular risk. It forms part of our on-going mission of improving lives by improving sight, while continuing our role to be the best business partner for independent practices,” Tim Precious added.

Patient leaflets and window posters will be available to support the relaunch.

The Optifog lens is available from 15th June.
