Churchill’s spectacle maker launches new collection

November 2013

C.W. Dixey & Son of London, makers of fine eyewear to more emperors, royalty and leaders than any other, has just released a new collection which pays homage to loyal customer Sir Winston Churchill.

The Chartwell collection of elegantly crafted light and dark tortoiseshell, plus black acetates, draws inspiration from the iconic styles worn by the British Prime Minister for more than five decades.  Jura manufactured, the fine tooling of the collection now offers a choice of 16 models in 44 colourways, all with the very best pin hinges.  Key design elements of Churchill’s spectacles include a double white spot motif on each temple tip, as Churchill requested in September 1944. The premium eyewear is presented with British-made soft leather cases which are embossed with the distinctive C.W. Dixey & Son coat-of-arms.

Established in 1777, C.W. Dixey & Son has the longest heritage in manufacturing fine eyewear and is proud of its customer heritage – the holder of fifteen Royal Warrants at times during its illustrious history. Customers have included seven Kings and Queens of England; the Royal families of Abyssinia, Belgium, China, France, Germany, India, Malaysia, Norway, Portugal and Sweden….and Napoleon Bonaparte.

Literary and artistic figures - James Bond creator, Ian Fleming; Peter Sellars, and Sir John Gielgud, reflect the discernment for timeless elegance shown by C.W. Dixey & Son customers, believes the still independently-owned company.

Supporting the collection, optician stockists are supplied with a crested leather dispensing mat and glossy reference books which illustrate the quintessential style: “The Art of Being Winston Churchill” by Barry Singer; and Neil Handley’s “Cult Eyewear”, which features the London company in detail.

All models, including half eyes and keyhole nose models, are priced at £132 + vat.
