UK Opticians get the 'Heads Up' on prescription smart glass technology at Optrafair London

April 2014

Following its fantastic debut and exceptional response at Vision Expo New York 2 weeks ago, Waterside Laboratories are delighted to show the UK market the very latest prescription frames and lenses for users of wearer technology like the Google Glass, who need vision correction.

“By the end of 2018 it is estimated that Google will have sold 21 million units of their Glass and with over 50% of the adult population needing some type of visual correction this has to be an area of the business that will offer phenomenal opportunities in the very near future” said Bob Forgan, Managing Director at Waterside Laboratories.

“With all the functionality and usability viewed via the heads-up display (HUD) the need for appropriate corrective lenses is critical as without good vision many users will not be able to fully experience smart glasses technology”.

Forgan went on to say "I am delighted to have reached agreement with New York based Rochester Optical*, making Waterside authorised reseller in the UK market for their patented Smart frames for Google Glass and Smart GOLD (Smart Glasses Optimized Lens Designs) technology which is fully optimised and compensated for use with the Google Glass HUD"

Optrafair London provides the opportunity to give UK Optical professionals the 'Heads Up' on the soon to be available frame product range, all of which will be available with Smart GOLD ‘lens within a lens’ digitally surfaced technology which optimizes visual acuity in the viewing areas associated with the smart glasses heads-up display areas. Uniquely customised for each individual smart glass wearer, virtually eliminating any prismatic effect that would otherwise be accentuated with standard lenses. As a result eye strain and eye fatigue is significantly reduced, allowing smart glasses to be comfortably worn for longer periods.

*Rochester Optical holds the worldwide patent on the method of attachment for the Smart frames to Google Glass and the Smart GOLD lens technology.
