#loveeyewear at 100%100% Optical is launching a brand new Eyewear Week running from 7 – 13 January to help save the high street and raise the profile of the most important fashion accessory there is.

Kicking-off the countdown to the show which takes place in the eyewear capital on 12-14 January at ExCel London, the goal is to help the optical industry generate public awareness around the hottest eyewear trends and designs, and to uncover and influence eyewear shopping habits.

Eyewear week will drive footfall into opticians to increase sales and generate publicity for the most important fashion accessory their customers own.

Worryingly one in ten British eyewear shoppers now purchase sunglasses and spectacles online, according to market research company GfK, which surveyed 6,000 consumers. It also revealed that price, quality, brand and celebrity ambassadors were among the top drivers behind buying decisions.

100% Optical believe that buying a new pair of frames is a pleasurable experience, and nothing can beat the personal customer service of an optician to assist in that process.

The initiative is supported by the Association of Optometrists (AOP) who believe Eyewear Week will help showcase what’s on offer on the high street and influence buying trends.

100% Optical is the place where optical fashionistas, stylists and stockists go to browse and uncover new eyewear trends and latest styles modelled on the vibrant catwalk. It is renowned for offering:

• The LARGEST collection of eyewear anywhere in the UK allowing you to cater for the all budget and price points of your customers.

• The BIGGEST brands in the world and huge selection of international independent brands on show.

• A rundown of what’s hot on the CATWALK with its infamous FASHION SHOWS.

100% Optical event director, Nathan Garnett said: “The high street is under threat, but 100% Optical believe that opticians can not only survive the challenging environment, but can also be part of its rebirth. To celebrate the optician’s role on the high street we are launching Eyewear Week to coincide with 100% Optical.

“This initiative will highlight and celebrate the massive variety of eyewear available to customers. We want to encourage people to come into your practice to try on frames and to explore buying frames to accessorise different outfits and seasons. Let’s banish the idea of a self-limiting ‘spare pair’ of specs only from now on.”

How to get involved

A social media selfie campaign will go live during Eyewear Week calling for people to wear their favourite specs and share selfies using #eyewearweek and #loveeyewear. A wall of the best selfies will be displayed at 100% Optical to inspire and celebrate some of our favourite eyewear.

Opticians can support Eyewear Week by running awareness campaigns in their branches and through social media using #EyewearWeek.

Visit to access campaign materials including posters to display in practice, social postcards to crusade on twitter and facebook, and website banners to help generate a buzz amongst customers.

A shop window competition will go live during the week and opticians are invited to post pictures of their displays via the campaign hashtag #EyewearWeek with prizes for the best designs.

An abundance of brand new content will be available via the 100% Optical website during the week, including educational blogs about ‘a day in the life of an optician’, eyewear style tips and consumer behavioural insights. There will also be a round-up of the latest eyewear designs and news from established brands and up-and-coming eyewear designers about unique designs and materials.

New Year, and a New Vision With 100% Optical in 2019.

August 2018

100% Optical 2019The UK’s largest optical event, 100% Optical, opens for registration and promises a bigger, bolder, brighter “one stop show”.

It kick-starts the New Year by opening its doors slightly earlier, between 12-14 January at ExCel London, and will be the place to spot new looks and discover new brands, innovations and new opportunities.

“Our one stop show offers visitors a journey of discovery by showcasing the biggest ever collection of brands and suppliers under one roof, alongside the opportunity to gain invaluable CET points as part of a world class education programme,” said event director, Nathan Garnett.

“It has cemented itself as THE place to gather optical information, follow eyewear trends with the vibrant catwalk shows and discover the latest equipment. It also aims to inspire visitors with business intelligence and ideas to help them identify and work towards their future vision, be it for personal career progression or their optical practice,” he continued.

Brand new for 2019 is an Eyewear week initiative running from 7-13 January, where 100% Optical aims to generate public awareness around eyewear trends and technology by highlighting the latest designs from established brands and up-and-coming designers.

The Equipment Hub will be the biggest yet as it represents a particular area of growth and interest for the industry. Visitors will discover plenty of new brands with over 130 new eyewear, equipment, lenses and business services brands confirmed for 2019. Topcon, International Eyewear, Dunelm, Mainline Instruments, Lafont and Hanson Instruments are just a selection of the new additions and 75 per cent of the floor space has already been snapped up. Other exhibitor highlights include Andy Wolf, Optos, William Morris and Bausch + Lomb.

Brand new for 2019, the British Academy of Audiology (BAA) has become an official partner and will put together a comprehensive education seminar programme for the Audiology hub, alongside the Association of Optometrists.

100% Optical 2019Event director, Nathan Garnett, said: “We’re eager for the return of 100% Optical as the High Street is about to have its worst year on record and optometrists need tools to help future proof their practice and become visionary leaders.

“The national debate around how to save the high street is gaining national and political attention. Optical practices will play a vital role in the survival and regeneration of the high street, providing an essential service that can’t be replicated online. With an ageing population optical professionals who diversify into areas like audiology and in supporting the NHS have a fantastic opportunity and should view the future with excitement.

“100% Optical 2019 will allow optical professionals the opportunity to work out how to capitalise on these changes to our industry.”

The AOP’s education programme will cover a broad array of topics from the latest myopia research, electrodiagnostics, overview of new technology and devices, guidance for newly qualified optometrists on improving referrals, the impact of artificial intelligence, the implications of the obesity time bomb, modern approaches to dry eye management, managing patients with visual impairment, career progression for optical assistants and binocular vision insights from leading speakers in orthoptics.

The Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) is returning to 100% Optical with a new location and the chance to speak to the ABDO team about topics from examinations to supporting your professional development.

The AOP awards and Royal College of Art Design competition also return for 2019, alongside ample business networking and socialising opportunities, plus the famous “after party” on Saturday night and central bar.

Travelling to 100% Optical just got quicker with Crossrail as the new connection opens in time for the show, making it easier to travel to London from the west and east and from Heathrow airport.
